Master plan for Miami-Dade neighborhood is created
Airport travelers were the primary group Starwood Hotels targeted when it began construction of its 209-room Element Miami International Airport a couple of blocks northeast of the $1.3 billion Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), a multipronged transit hub in northwestern Miami-Dade County.
It should be easier to do that by next year if a master plan for its surrounding community, Palmer Lake, takes hold.
Palmer Lake Area Plan Approved
The Palmer Lake Area Plan was approved by the Board of County Commissioners at their May 1 meeting. The plan report as approved is available here. The approved plan report includes amendments made at the April 11 ILUC and May 1 BCC meetings.

Located just east of the Miami International Airport(MIA), the Miami Intermodal Center is a massive $2 billion ground transportation hub being built by the Florida Department of Transportation.
The MIC Program consists of several components: major roadway improvements, including a reconfigured Le Jeune Road, completed in May 2008; the user-friendly Rental Car Center which opened for business in July 2010; the MIA Mover which became operational in September 2011 and connects MIA to the Rental Car Center; the Miami Central Station which opened in April 2015 currently offers connections to Tri-Rail and Greyhound services with Amtrak services scheduled to start in the fall of 2016; and Joint Development which is currently being explored.

The Bertram property has frontage on the Miami River, and is surrounded by a gritty district of warehouse and industrial uses. A short distance away is the surprisingly beautiful Palmer Lake, surrounded by lush, tropical foliage. Also within walking distance are the verdant fairways of the Melreese Golf Course, a sharp contrast to the hustle of the adjacent airport.

The buyer of the former Bertram Yacht facility on the Miami River has ambitious plan to capitalize on the property’s prime position while restoring its marine uses.
Jorge H. Bernstein’s Interterra Investments Group and Intermarine Investments paid $35.5 million for the 20.85-acre property at 3480, 3550, 3660 and 3663 N.W. 21st Street. It was formerly a yacht manufacturing and service center, but Bertram left in 2012 and it hasn’t been used for much since.
